Palm de retour en europe ?

En lisant une des nombreuses newsletter du JDN, j’ai trouvé cet article à propos de palm :
Le smartphone Treo Pro de Palm va être lancé sur les réseaux européens de Vodafone en septembre. Il s’agit d’un appareil destiné aux professionnels, équipé de 3G+, Wi-Fi et GPS. Côté OS, il embarque Windows Mobile 6.1. Selon Palm, ce produit se destine aux grands comptes et aux DSI, directement en concurrence avec le Blackberry. Palm espère que ce produit lui permettra de remonter la pente, et d’atteindre l’équilibre financier après une période délicate.
Palm serait donc de retour en europe pour concurencer RIM et la série Balckberry ? De vous à moi, ils n’ont pas intérêt de se rater… c’est une question de vie ou de mort…

Très très intéressant ce nouveau Tréo ! Ca risque d’être un peu juste pour concurrencer Apple et l’iPhone mais avec un peu de chances ca va faire remonter les ventes de Palm aux US.
Dommage que ce joli petit PDA ne soit disponible qu’aux utilisateurs Américains. Enfin qui sait.. peu être en Europe un jour…

Palm’s Windows Mobile enhancements include:
- the ability to call, text, email, search the Web, and do a point-of-interest search (GPS/LBS) directly from the Today Screen;
- an « ignore a call » feature to send quick text messages — such as “In a meeting” or “Can’t talk right now” — from the Incoming Call Screen;
- superior phone and call-management features, including dedicated icons for mute, speakerphone and conference calling, and the ability to dial phone numbers in an email or webpage, all with just one-touch;
- a dial-by-name feature from the Today Screen;
- a one-touch Wi-Fi button to conveniently connect and manage Wi-Fi;
- GPS searches from the Today Screen and integration with Contacts and Sprint Navigation for turn-by-turn and audible directions;
- more program memory (128MB) and user storage (170MB internal, 8GB microSD expansion), along with a 2MP camera and high resolution 320×320 touch screen; and
- Palm’s familiar one-handed navigation, including hard buttons for email and calendar, a five-way navigation button and tactile keyboard, and an on/off ringer switch to silence the phone in meetings.

IDC: Palm market share up to 13.4% in Q108

IDC just released a report detailing the latest smartphone market share numbers for Q1 2008. The new numbers show a jump for Palm to 13.4 percent from 7.9 percent in the previous quarter (Q407).
A big reason for the increase–the $99 Centro is selling like hotcakes. Here’s a Bloomberg article with more details.
